Jamming device for IEDs/Whats makes them go boom?

I am currently using the ALiVE IED Module for my mission, and its working great :) However, I was wondering how EOD's or players in general can prevent the IED from blowing up? Is there some kind of device that jams IEDs? So far, I usually just approached IED's with an EOD and disarmed it, however, often it just explodes while I'm coming near it. Does it make a difference if I walk/run, and what other things influence if the IED is gonna blow up?

I believe it creates a trigger and multiplies your height by your speed, and compares that to your distance from it. So if you move slowly, and as you get nearer crouch and then crawl the last bit, it shouldn't go off. Also, and this is a guess, but there may be a chance of exploding when disarming, if you're not a demo expert.
